Emergency Advice for Out-of-Hours

What should I do in an emergency? What if it's 3 in the morning and I think my child has appendicitis?

This is a question that is commonly asked by our patients. We are a primary care clinic and offer high

quality medicine within office hours. It is only natural, especially if you are new in town, to be concerned

about emergencies as the system may be a little different from back home.

We can divide out-of-hours medical care into 4 categories:

  Non-Urgent
Generally, a minor fever or a cough, a tummy ache or a mild pain is a non-urgent case. These types
of conditions do cause worry when they happen in the night or at a weekend. As a rule, non-urgent cases
that are stable can wait until the clinic opens at 8:30am. We will always do our best to fit in patients as
soon as we can. These cases are by far the majority.

  Urgent
Concerned that the medical condition cannot wait or is deteriorating? We recommend that you consider
attending hospital. Most of our patients choose the private sector hospitals that offer 24 hour services and
who operate their own charged-based ambulances.

The Public Sector Medical Services are also very good. Al Wasl Maternity and Children's Hospital has an
excellent reputation for maternity and childcare and deals with sickest children and babies.

The regional Trauma Centre is based at the Rashid Hospital.

If you are really concerned you can dial 999 and the Dubai Unified Ambulance Service will attend and take
you to Rashid Hospital. Response times are usually very good.

  Emergency / Accident
If someone stops breathing, has a severe bleed or any other major injury at home or on the highway,
call 999. Ambulance response times may be different to expectations but in our experience they are quick.
Trauma services have recently been upgraded to meet the growing needs of Dubai, with improvements in
  ambulance and critical care.

Inifinity personnel recently trained with some of these wonderful paramedics on the Pre-Hospital Advanced
Trauma Life Support course and found them to be well trained, .
  enthusiatic and very professional.
rashid trauma centre

Dubai Police / Ambulance will deliver you to Rashid Hospital's recently completed
'state of the art' Trauma Centre that provides excellent care for major traumas.
This unit is comparable with equal to top hospitals around the world.

It is a legal requirement that all accident cases are reported to the police even if you attend hospital and
the police have not yet been involved up to that point.

  If A Death Occurs
The police will need to be involved whether or not a crime has been committed. They are fair and balanced
but the procedures may differ from those in other countries. You may need to plan for this to take a while
as it may involve a stay in the police station at a time when you feel quite vulnerable.

Make sure that you are registered with your Embassy or Consulate and don't hesitate to contact them
so that they can assist you with any arrangements which might need to be made.
