| The modern traveller traveller / eco-tourist explores parts of the world where diseases exist that they may be |
unfamiliar with. In order that you can get the most out of your travel, a little planning prior to departure can |
| make a world of difference. |
| |
| It is always advisable to come and see your travel medicine doctor , if possible, at least 4-6 weeks before |
| your trip, as some vaccinations and medications need to be started well before you leave home. |
| |
| Things which we like to discuss incude: |
| |
- Vaccines required for travel
|
We are able to offer most travel vaccines required with the exception of Yellow Fever
Vaccine - which, |
| according to recent regulations, can now only be given at a Government Clinic. |
| |
| We can however, advise you if you in fact need the Yellow Fever Vaccine and how to arrange it |
| |
|
|
|
| Advice and prescriptions if appropriate. Your specific destination, the length of your stay, age, |
| pregnancy status, medical history and other factors affect your choice of anti-malarials. |
| |
- Preventable Infections Diseases
|
| eg. traveller's diarrhoea, water-borne infections. We're keen |
|
| to provide you with advice on how to avoid such problems, |
| and emergency medications if needed. |
| |
| In addition to your visit to your GP, it's always also a good idea |
| to visit the website from your country's consulate or embassy |
| as their travel warnings page may also contain pertinent |
| information. |
| |
- Pre-existing conditions and travel
|
| eg. Pregnancy, diabetes. We can advise people with special requirements on how to travel in safety. |
| |
- Special travel situations
|
|
|
| e.g. Wilderness travel, travel at altitute, diving. Sometimes if you are going on a trip which is a little out |
| of the ordinary, we can help with special information and medications you may need. |
| |
| |
| At Infinity Health, all our family medicine doctors and specialists can help you with travel medicine needs |
| however this is a particulary favourite topic of Dr. Elizabeth Elderfield. |
